THIS ‘N’ THAT

Two great ‘finds’ I want to share.

First, a great book on Hydrangeas.

Not a textbook of different cultivars and breeding crosses but one that addresses the basic questions about pruning, drying, cutting, planting , fertilizing etc. THE COLORFUL WORLD OF HYDRANGEAS by Joan Harrison deserves a space in every garden library.

Second, I just discovered the very best container for gathering fresh stems.

Three compartments…

I found several useful items here, maybe you will too. Did you notice the lilies? ….These are Lilium rubrum.

That is a very nice container, handy too.

Love that container! I’ve been around Hydrangeas a lot this summer (for personal reasons that hopefully make it on the blog soon) and just the variations within one bush are just AMAZING! I’ve had a vase of them nearly constantly for the past 6 weeks on my desk at work and I never tire of them. Also amazing that cut from the bush they’ll last 2 weeks in a vase!

Stefan, they will start to feel papery after a while. Remove from water and they will dry & be decorative all winter. They are a truly amazing shrub.
